Dash illuminated ?

Hi guys,

A quick question please. On the wife's SEL we have recently noticed that when the light switch is in the off position (but obviously with the headlights and tail lights on as DRL's), we have no illumination of the dash clocks except the red needles. We are almost convinced that when the car was new back in April, the dash illumination was on all the time (which is what the wife would like).

Can someone check that this is the same with theirs and that there isn't a problem with the car?

Mines also a 1.2 SEL No dash ilumination with just DRL's, you need side-lights or headlamps for dials to light up..

Mines the same, iv got a 1.2 Moda, But I did notice the number plate lights come on with the DRL's.

The dials themselves don't light up on with the lights in the 0 position. There is a dusk sensor and if it senses you need sidelights or headlights on, the dials get dimmed further to prompt you to turn them on.

The dash illumination isn't on all the time it's just the needles which illuminate all the time

Was looking over at the Australian water cooled.ag forum for the 6R, and a guy there said his dealer performed a few tweaks for him which I guess we're VAS programming mods ( like our VCDS). The point that interested me was:

Anyone know where this byte is in VCDS please ?

Pity if the dials dim to remind the driver that the lights don't go on automatically...

Can the dials be illuminated by VCDS?

My dials are dimmly lite during the day when my light switch is in the off position. If i go under a bridge the dials go black and just my needles glow red come out from the bridge dash glows again. At night when the switch is on the dash is bright and all the buttons are red.
