heater control lighting

Hi, I have 51 plate polo S, since Ive had it the heater control dials have failed to illuminate while the lights are on. I assumed it was a bulb, changed it (the one behind the centre blower speed dial), and it's still not lighting up. Ive posted this question on another forum, didn't get much help unfortunately, but one guy said something about a black 8-pin connector? Can anyone confirm what I should be looking for and where to find it? Thanks
