Hello everyone,

First of all, I am new here and I am 16 years old at the moment. But in May, I will be 17 ( yes, in May 2012 ) and I want to get one of these wee polo for my first car. I am looking at the SEL Model with 105hp and hopefully in white . I have a few questions to ask though, what sort of wheels should I look at? I found these wheels and they look very very nice on MK6 Golfs but not sure if it will fit the Polo 6R or not http://www.velocitymotoring.com/wheels_v710.html

But I don't know what sort of size I will need. I want the wheel to sort of like line up with the fenders.. (don't know if you know what I mean..) I might get some lowering springs as well. Heard ebaich do a good set of them that drops 30mm.

Any advise will be great!

welcome to the forum i have a 1.4 sel in white and i think alloys look ok on them,but i do like the black alloys on certain cars.

I like your way of thinking, but sorry to put a downer on your dreams, but have you looked into insurance? Insuring a 17 year old with no no-claims bonus on a 1.2 tsi polo isn't gonna be affordable by your average joe. I started out with a 1.2 Polo Match (70bhp) and my insurance was 3250 in my first year.

Short of it, look into insurance before you set your heart on it. Cracking choice though

alright i have a candy white SE 1.4 and i love it

as for the whels, they look good and i havent seen them done on a polo 6r before so i'd say go for it and do you mean you want the wheels sitting out in line with the wheel arch? depends on the width and offset of the wheel, and even if theyre not that wide just get spacers and that'll bring them out to the arch
and if your gonna get springs, i'd advise you to get the h&r's, they give a better drop than any other spring ive seen so far. Ive seen pictures of a 6r with the springs you said and its definatly not as good a drop as the h&r's. heres a pic of a 6r car with the ebiach 30mm springs:

Thanks for the replied everyone I will need to look into insurance then... Nevertheless, I'm still getting a polo

About the wheels I've mentioned in my first post, what offset should I get? I'm really stuck here but those polos in the picture are very neat and tidy! I'll look into H&R springs. Where can I get them?

not a probem, glad i could help im not sure about offset and all that, but i've just ordered rims 7.5'' wide at the front and 8.5'' wide at the back and ive seen wider put on a polo so they should fit fine

I was like u. A wanted the Tsi to buy for my second car. I would not advice ya to get a new car for ya first car as sooner or later YOU WILL CRASH. Even if u just dint it. A crashed my first Car just a little dint here n there. And a think everyone has. You will be at least paying £200 a month for the car alone on a polo plus petrol and running

Insurence is the killer wen I was 17 my insurance was 2500 on a ford ka. An now on my polo with a year under my belt it is 1500. Just get a cheap first car to bomb about in mate (unless ya mam n dad paying like but this way not really your car)

but mate really just get a old polo n ya not care if ya dint it here n there. Just take ya time with it mate and watch ya money. A feel like a rushed into things mate. Just take ya time ya got lots of it on ya hand just like me . We young be a propa little boy racer. Buy it all ya self don't get mammy n daddy to buy it as no ones likes that at all

I learnt to drive on a 1.2 Clio as a named driver and the insurance was something like £900. 3 months later i decided to roll my car into a ditch and right it off I then got another 1.2 Clio, the following year when the insurance was due for renewal it jumped about £1200 at this point i was still a named driver but was marked for business use as i needed it for work.

For me to insure my gti i'm £681 with no claims bonus, 15000 miles and business use with 3 named drivers Which i find very good at my age and with my crash!

Also mate all polos are same PCD 5x100 with 35 to 45 offset. Them mk6 golf wheels will not fit unless ya having adaptors. With 5x112 to 5x100. Also mate 30mm drop not worth it. GOt mine dripped 120 and still not that low

I'm getting like 18" wheels so maybe 35mms will do. I don't know yet as I haven't got the car so I will need to look into that deeper when I have the car. Yeah, I went on ebay to look for adapters. Found 5x100 to 5x112 but they cost a lot... like £100 a pair..

it depends on your choice man, ive seen people who have got cheap ebay coils that say they're sposed to drop 120mm but they look no lower than mine.(35/55mm) but ive seen other people who have got cheap ebay coils and it drops it alot. if your going for 18'' then id say either the ebaich or h&r will be more than enough.

That's the idea of coilovers, you can drop it how much you like, who's to say the ones you've seen were wound right down?

i obviously know how coilovers work. they said in their thread they were wound right down

Coilovers may have 120mm adjustment on them, but it doesn't necessarily follow that they LOWER 120mm. some will have an almost 4X4 stance when at the top of the travel and be 50mm+ higher than stock, so at the lowest could be 60mm lower than stock.
