On 17's but rubbing in front arches. Any help?

Post by Russell9n3 »

On 17's with 205/40/17 tyres but it is rubbing when i hit a bump or go round a corner too fast. I've had it on 17's before and had no such problem so not sure why its playing up now. I'm a novice when in terms of car mechanics so some suggestions would be of help... Also i don't want to raise the coilovers because it will in turn look pretty lame! Thanks...

Might need wheel spacers..

What wheels are you running and what offset..

i got the same problem too mate, but i thought that was part of the game! is there really a solution?
running 17 with 7.5j, 205/40 tyres, ET35 (+5mm spacers so ET30).

i thought of making coilover upspring rate harsher, problem is the ride will be less comfortable.
try the above because mine been doing this for years, but no visible problems yet.

The wheels i'm running are RH AG-Cup wheels. I think the offset is 40. Not sure if spacers would help at all? Because it seems to be rubbing more on the outer side the tyre. It's just an annoyance because my work an stuff is down a B road so i'm having to drive half the speeds as the norm purely because of anger i get because of this rubbing haha

Yeah that was one of my thoughts to try them on the fronts. Its an expensive change though if it doesn't in turn solve the problem. Its almost like the arch is big enough its just the plastic lining inside is needed to be pushed back abit some how, because there feels like there is some space behind it when you push it down alittle. Oh well what a pain in the arse!

Think the gtis have bigger arches well the plastic is trimmed back more coz i had a 8v 9n then went to a 9n3 gti and a felt asif ther was more space so maybe try the fender liner off a gti :s dunno if it will fit tho

I have the same problem, cant change tire size though so I'm in the same predicament as you

Spacers would only make it worse

If its only rubbing on the fender liner where the clip is, then remove it and try mounting it behind the clip, if its all over, you're stuffed

Yeah i was going to remove the liner an see if i can somehow modify it. I don't want to start cutting holes an stuff in it cos i'd get too much mud in water on the bare metal because of where i live and also don't want to change the wheels because it looks pretty good. So im in a dilemma. Anyways thanks for the help guys, much appreciated!

On mine the tyres were rubbing loads on the screws holding the inner arch in. i just took the middle screws out and bent the tabs up out of the way and had no problem since!
