Front Speaker not speaking all the time....

Post by JWC »

Hi,
I found a strange effect with my stereo which seemed to make it sound different every now and then. I figured out that the front speaker in the door (not the tweeter) works sometimes and not others. Presumably it shares the same wire going to the door as the tweeter. So I presume the problem must be in the door between where the wire comes in, and where it goes to the speaker.

Since the I got the car from VW [only a couple of weeks back] do you think its probably best to get them to stick the connector back on, or can the door cards come of reasonably easy? See- I'm reluctant to take the card off, because in my experiance they never the same again!

My stereo is a gamma with cdc and 6 speaker. (Oh don't forget the sub!)

Also the stereo seems to have built in loudness (that is increased base and to a lesser extent treble at lower volumes) I think it sounds a bit muddy at lower levels. What does anyone else think?

If it's under warranty, I'd get VW to fix it. Speaker wiring issues can be easy or hard, depending on where the break is. It sounds like it's probably just a loose connector at the speaker end, but why knock yourself out when you've got a warranty? ;)

As far as I'm aware the Gamma radio never came with a subwoofer option - was it aftermarket fitted?

It's not the finest quality system, but to be honest, it knocks the socks off a lot of other OEM stereos, looks smart in the Polo dash, has some nice features (speed-sensitive volume and traffic announcement recording) and was free. What more can you ask for? :)
