6n2 non start issues (sorry I'm a newbie with a problem)

Post by Lupopolo »

Hi and thanks for taking the time to look At my problem
I've got a major fault with my 2001 Polo 1.4 Match
The car has no dash lights at all but turn the key to start the car it turns over but will not fire
All other electrics work ie sunroof, lights and indicators ect.... All exept the power windows and central locking
I've checked all the fuses and the only one that's blown is the power window fuse no41. Think I've got a fault in the door wiring possibly but not sure it's related to my main fault
I seem to have all the live supply's from the ignition and I'm sure the dash and non start issues are related.
If it makes any difference my car has the later dash with the round instrument panels.
Anyone delt with or heard of this fault before. Any help would be much appreciated.

Sounds like maybe an imobilser issue.

Have you got another key you can try with incase the transponder has failed?

Might be worth replacing that fuse though - when I removed one for the windows on mine it screwed up all sorts of things, like the mirrors and wipers. :?

If you can, get it scanned for fault codes. If you're local to Aylesbury/Oxford area I don't mind have a go for you?

The immobiliser won't cause this. If the immobiliser is at fault, the engine will run for 2 seconds and then stop. Id be checking battery voltages, earths and fuses to start with.

Ah, my bad!

On my punto it cranked, but not fired, assumed this would be the same.

Hi thanks for your help.
I've been told today by someone who had the same fault that the instrument panel is faulty.
He said the immobilizer and fuel pump relay run through the instrument panel.
Dose anyone reckon there could be any truth in this? Apparently it's a fairly common fault!!!

It sounds like the ECU power feed has died.

I had a car in with this, a fair few places had looked at it before me and had no idea, I diagnosed it and had it running in about ten minutes.

I just chucked a fused wire in as I couldn't be assed taking the dash out to diagnose further. (this is my daily car too)

Plug it into vagcom and if it's not acknowledging that you have an engine, I'll tell you what to do.

Hi there I've plugged the car into VAGcom and it's as you said. Baisicly it's not picking up the engine ECU or the instrument panel. It's looking more likely the ECU live or earth feed. Just one thing would this cause the instrument panel not to work? Cheers

It all depends where it's failed.

Ready to start getting it going again ?

Sure am:-). I've looked at the wiring diagram for the ECU and found pin 15 and 27 to be the live feeds. Can I assume one of these lives is causing the fault?

If you've got a fix for it that would be great
