Oil

Post by George H »

My mate bought me a load of oil the other day from Costco, but he's picked up Castrol Edge 5W-40 instead of 5W-30. Will this still be alright to use in my Polo GTI, or will it be better off if I swap it for 5W-30?

Cheers

I don't think it will cause any problems, infact the slightly thicker viscosity of it is probably better anyway, but 5W-30'is the spec. and if you had any engine related warranty claim, you can be sure that VW would try and wriggle out of it if they know you had used 5W-40.

You could try it, but long term I would stick to 5W-30.

I could take it back, just it's a 3 hour round trip for me and I don't have a card for there, so I was sort of hoping I could make do, but I never thought of the warranty implications. I'll have to see if I can make a trip down there this weekend.
