LG's 11 Polo TDI

Post by lesgodoy »

Hello everyone,

I found this forum a couple of days ago and decided to introduce myself. About 4 months ago I picked up my Polo at the local dealership, here is what I have:
VW Polo 1.2 TDI Comfortline, 4 door (Yes I know, but it is a family car)
Extras:
Ride comfot package (flat tyre indicator, park distance control, cruise control, multi-function display)
Lights and Vision pack
Side windows tinted
Front centre armrest
Multidevice interface for iPod

Now, I have some ideas and plans in mind:
De badge car, done!
Take off that awful dealership sticker in the back, done!
Order new reg plates, done, still need to change them...
Upgrade bulbs, ordered but have not arrived yet... Philips Blue Vision Ultra for headlights and fog lights, Dectane LED for car reg.

My biggest question/concern is wheels, would love to upgrate them to a 17" with 215/40 R17 tyres, HOWEVER, this car has 4 months and nearly 10,000 km already (hence I chose a diesel), I travel at least 70km on the motorway daily to go to/from work, so I am a little concerned due to fuel efficiency... I am not very knowledgeable when it comes to cars, to be honest, so any feedback would be appreciated. I dont mind spending a little more due to nicer wheels, just a bit concerned if this is the right thing to do in my case...

A couple of other things I am thinking about at the moment:
Steering wheel, either change mine to VW Scirocco (like others in this forum), or get them wrapped in a nice leather... If I decide to change the wheel, would that void my guarantee?
Dark tail lights, VW part 6r0 052 200 8rz, I like the look of them but dunno if anyone has tried them yet?

Ok, I think this is all for now, below are 4 month old pics, will update them soon after I receive my deliveries :)

Hope the link works, not sure how to post pics in this forum...

Hi mate, welcome to the forum. Nice choice for headlight bulbs, they're the ones I have installed and i'm very happy with them! As far as the wheels are concerned, I don't think they will make that much difference. Der Finne (another forum member) fitted smaller tires instead of the 17" wheels and if I remember correctly the difference was around 5 mpg over a 60 mile run. I'll try find his post and post it up later :) Personally I wouldn't mess with your steering wheel unless you know what you are doing, theres complex wiring and airbags and allsorts...

Hope this helps,

Alex

Hi Alex,

Got the bulbs today and fitted them, very happy with the result... Just one thing, I got H3 bulbs for fog lights but it turns out they are H8. Did you get bulbs for the fog lights, and if so which ones? I cant seem to find Philips Blue vision Ultra in H8....

Also did u change any of the inside bulbs? I am getting some c5w for the vanity mirrors but what about the center lights, do you know which bulb they take? I started to mess with the fitting but need to do more research on how to take them out...

Thank you!

The center light has x2 off 5w5 bulbs and a festoon bulb (38mm long if i remember correctly). And yes your correct, fog lamps are infact h8 bulbs, i have some big 42 led bulbs in mine. Mega bright. They dont put much light on the road but will be perfect to help you stand out in foggy days and nights.

I got the steering wheel from an ebay seller based in Ireland, daiman69.
They dont seem to have one on their online shop at the moment, but contact them with the item you are interested in and im sure they can help you out. I read loads of forums before buying from them and only heard good things, plus they have been around for many years, which is always a good sign.
Hope that helps!

The wheel was supplied to me with the right cables, so was pretty much plug and done. I didnt trust myself to do it alone, so went to my local German mechanic and he helped me just to make sure everything was in order, best 20 euro I have ever spent for my piece of mind. If you are not sure how to do it properly I would get help... but thats just me :)
