Fuel Gauge

Post by PJH »

Alright guys, i think that my fuel gauage is deciding to get a bit opotomistic with thwe amount of fuel that is in my tank as ive done 135 miles (driving fairly un-economically) and i still have 3/4's of a tank left which never ever happens. Anyone have any ideas how to fix it?
Cheers! :D

Could be the fuel sender on its way out but more likely it's just being a bit temperamental. You'll probably turn it on tomorrow to find that its half empty. Mine tends to stay at full for ages an then drop like a stone.

If it still seems weird, make a note of how much fuel you're putting in and see if it's using reasonable amounts for the mileage. There are loads of apps that let you track mpg and miles till empty so might be of use to you as well.

No worries mate, I once pulled over after a few hours of 'spirited' driving because I thought my fuel gauge had broken. Trip computer wasn't changing the expected range or anything. Decided to be brave and finish the rest of the journey, about 220 miles in total and was convinced it had broken. Filled up the next day and calculated I'd somehow done 63mpg. At motorway speeds. In a GTi. Go figure lol 8)
