Gti pouring out cloudy smoke and it stank!
Gti pouring out cloudy smoke and it stank!
As title I got home today from work didn't do anything different on the drive home but when I got home it was smoking really bad and really didn't smell pleasant
I've got a decat but I've not notice anything before
Could it be head gasket on it's way out?
It's not blue or black smoke it's White cloudy colour almost like condensation
Thoughts on this would be appreciated
Thanks Simon

Isn't oil blue smoke?
Sounds more like water and the smell being hot antifreeze.
Sounds like it could be head gasket blown.

My friend had the same white smoke and it turned out being a gasket.

It does sound very much like a head gasket, white cloudy smoke is a sure sign

Getting a compression test tonight.. Just waiting on my mate to plaster a ceiling haha he's a mechanic by trade!
Ahhh just fitted the forge turbo intake pipe..
FAG! Did anyone that has it fitted need a cut it down a bit? Mines touching the metal bracket at the back of the engine...
Also anyone know a rough price for head gasket kit?
Thanks guy really appreciate this

Regarding the forge pipe I assume you mean it's touching on metal water pipe?Simon90 wrote:Getting a compression test tonight.. Just waiting on my mate to plaster a ceiling haha he's a mechanic by trade!

I put a spacer in between the block and pipe to solve this. Was around 10mm. Had to use another bolt to into account the extra 10mm or so.
The parts you will need will depend on when/if you chnged the timing belt if.
You will need new
Head bolts
Head gasket
Timing belt and all tensioners rollers etc
oil filter
oil and antifreeze.
Probs. cost around 150 from dealer.
Re: Gti pouring out cloudy smoke and it stank!
I think it's missed the pipe I'm going to bend the bracket out the way it's Bolted onto the the engine itself..
Anyways back to the topic..
Thanks for info on rough prices
Cam belt needs doing anyways so I'll get the lot.. Luckily I bought a new oil filter the other day for the service so thats one part not to buy haha
I'll update tonight on the situation

Compression test done n all at 12bar...? Good bad?
No smoke until about 5miutee of running it from the test
Gave it some revs n then it all poured out again.. Mate said it was stinking of oil

Re: Gti pouring out cloudy smoke and it stank!
Have you checked the oil itself? Is the level as expected or is there any white sludge around the filler cap?
Re: Gti pouring out cloudy smoke and it stank!
Oil level is fine about 7/8 full if that makes sense.. I saw a little bit of the White stuff earlier
Going to work tomorrow as I think it's fine to drive just take it careful.. I must admit my mpg is shocking ATM? Could this be anything to do with any problems are have a connection?
I'll check the oil tomorrow at lunch n hopefully we might get somewhere soon.. As it's bugging me

When you say after 5 minutes of running is this at idle?
What mileage is your car at?
Could be turbo seals. Oil dripping into exhaust housing.

I'd say oil seals on the turbo to the exhaust. You should get this sorted soon as as if the oil gets from the turbo through the engine it probably will seize it. Worst case scenario though. Oil seals mean turbo off pricey job but worth it in the long run
Re: Gti pouring out cloudy smoke and it stank!
Mileage is currently 50k
Yeah was on idle for 5..
I can get the turbo off it's not a problem, laugh at me if im wrong but would I need to send the turbo away for new seals?
Drove into work this morning and was a bit smokey about 15minutes into the drive but when I got to work there was just a smell of fuel which is normal

It depends if you or someone else knows what you're doing. It can be re done yourself.
