Swticted live is Permamently live!

Post by rafcoppa »

Hi

Ive got a TDI 6n2 with a gamma unit in it and even with the ignition off and key out I can switch the radio on. Conversely this means I need to switch if off when I get out otherwise it will drain the battery. Ive just tried to fit a new head unit, Pioneer AViC-HD3II which doesnt have an off button and has a HDD and perm on GPS. So with this connected but with the ignition off the radio is still pulling around .65 volts which will drain the battery in no time.

Ive had the multimeter out and checked the wires from the loom into the head unit and both the brown and red and plain red wires are permamently live regardless of ignition position. Is this normal in a 6n2?? My electric windows still need the acc switch on to work, so its not a faulty key switch. Does anyone know where I can find a switched live wire to tap into to solve the problem or is there something else I can do?

Cheers in advance

Tom

Sorry for posting in a couple of areas but wasnt sure where best to ask this!

There's a red and a yellow, from
The back on aftermarket stereos. You need to do red to yellow and yellow to red.

Yeah the red wire is permanent live, the yellow is switched live or the other way around I can't remember. They will have bullet connectors on the ISP adapter just make sure you put yellow to red and vica versa. That means it will come on when you turn to acc position and off when you remove the keys.

Yeah I know what your talking about with the red and yellow leads on the radio, but with the feed from the cars loom, both of the perm live and switched live leads are perm live regardless of ignition switch position so swopping the red and yellow over will make no difference!

Well I gave it a whirl, swopped the red and yellow around and it made no difference, the radio was on constantly. So out came the wiring diagrams and I ended up sripping most of the dash out in search of a switched live wire. VW really like to wrapped their looms up well, so I ended up splicing into the electric window supply. Not exactly close to where I needed it but it was the easiest one I could find to get to.

So no idea why my switched live radio wire isnt switched but its solved now and the new head unit is in. Lucky it was nice and sunny today.

Thanks for your input.
