how do people know that link i put up there are replicas?
Laura, the middle number is the height of the tyre sidewall and is a percentage of the 215mm width, so...
40% of 215mm = 86mm.
I think you are getting the middle number mixed up with the ET offset for the alloys which is a completely different thing.
Standard offset for a 7" wide 17" diameter alloy is ET46.

There is a few of us that normally meet up there on random nights. . . And use to have a big meet there but the big meets now in Salford as Costco kept kicking us off.

the 215 is the width of the tyre the 40 is the hight of the sidewall of the tyre the 17 is the size of the tire.x.laura.x wrote:Ooooh i thought so .... and also you know you get these number 215/40/17 the middle number does that need to be between 38-45??

so the smaller the middle number the lower profile the tyre is, on the 17" gti wheel the profile is 45 if that helps.
