Not very pleased - Polo Gti

Post by Stugolf1 »

Hi guys, my cars has been in the dealers over the past few days with the oil issues, it's already had the piston rings replaced in December but it hasn't worked and is still using oil as much as it did before.

They have rung me to pick the car up today because basically VW can't decide what to do next! I assumed it would more than likely be a new engine but according to the dealer they haven't sent a "bulletin" to say yes or no or other modification needed to sort the issue?

So now I'm totally confused as according to the dealer the repair advice from VW could come next week, next month or even next year! So now my car is sat in limbo with no repair looming, the dealer is now giving me free oil but that's no solution! So say im annoyed is an understatement! they have suggested I call VW customer service to try and see how long it might be

Anyone else similar or any advice?

Call your finance company (if you used one), they have a vested interest in the car. Insist on a new revised engine to be fitted.

Oil problems seem to be very random on the GTI's. One doesn't use any oil at oil, the other a little, the other some more, and some use up a liter per 1000 kilometres. Even with the new type engines ( CHTE ) there are still problems.

What's your oil consumption? Is it really bad?

I'm trowing in 0W40 at the next service, yes it voids my warranty but I'm going to an other company. No more VW dealers for me. Curious if the slighty thicker oil helps the oil consumption go down.

My GTI is using 1 liter on 5000km, so I can live with that.

Good advice Deako I'll give that a shot

Visas, yes it's quite bad I've used just over 1 litre in 800miles after the piston rings, I can't live with that myself

From what ive read and heard this engine code (CHTE) is only from May onwards...supposed to be the solution, but that being said we all thought the CAVE was the solution until almost immediately problems arose.

That's way to much indeed, almost 5 times the amount I'm using. I would push hard on those guys and demand improvement!

The problem with VW is, they say this oil problem is ,, normal '' and will do anything to stall or even not to help you with your problem. Our main VW importer doesn't so called know about this oil problem the GTI's have. I love the GTI, it's my first VW car but I now already hate the VW mentality.

You sir are king when you are searching for a VW, and a nobody when you have problems with it.

LocoPolo70: True, since May the GTI's come with CHTE. The only update are the pistons/rings, so it's the update they are giving some of the real problem GTI's like this one from Stugolf1, but it still isn't a 100% solid solution. You just gotta have luck with it, and that's ridiculious for a +- 25.000€ + car.

Luckily VW have clearly admitted its a problem with the free oil they've given me but I can't understand why they won't replace the engine :?: If piston rings don't work what would! I assume the bores are glazed which could only be solved by a new block

Sounds like they not convinced a new engine will solve it and theirs little to suggest the later engines solve it

You can legally "refuse" the car

I am not 100% sure of the procedure to it but as they have no solution to fix the problem then they must take back the car and either replace it like for like or refund you your money

I certainly wouldn't accept then just giving you oil

I will speak to VW Customer Service and see what they say, I've had the car almost a year now and on my 6th bottle of oil

Unsure if they'd give me my money back though as I put a hefty deposit on the car

Spoken to VW Customer Services regarding my issue

Looks like all further repairs have been halted by VW until they find a solid solution according to them

No timeframe on it either, could be next month or even next year apparently :(

Thanks mate, looking into rejecting the car at the moment but have given VW a month to get it sorted first which I think is quite generous considering I've had issues since November

Will keep this thread going when I hear more
