1.0E or 1.4E as a first car?
1.0E or 1.4E as a first car?
Haven't been on here for a while as I was waiting until I had passed my test. Anyway I passed around a month ago and I'm looking for my first car. Need some advice whether to get a 1.0E or a 1.4E, I'm unsure how much the insurance is going to cost but I take it the 1.0E should be a bit cheaper. I'm put off the 1.0l as they're not fast at all but I shouldn't be worried about that as it is a first car and all
Any help would be much appreciated.

I think the 1.4E Polo has the 8V 60bhp engine so based on that I would just go for the 50bhp 1.0ltr.
Both models are not going to be fast so you might as well go for the 1.0 and take advantage of the cheaper insurance, either that or look for a 1.4 TDI Polo (quiet rare) which are really cheap to run, tax & insure

Yeah the 1.4E is the 60bhp engine. I have a 1.0E, and for a first car its brilliant. Its not the fastest of cars, but its definitely a joy to drive. I didn't see the point in paying extra on insurance just for an extra 10bhp from the 1.4E so I went with the 1.0E. As for insurance, I think I payed about £1400 for my first year after passing my test. Either way both would make a great first car.

1.4 TDi's are relatively rare but great little cars which are amazing on fuel
My dad has one and the fuel economy is unreal
It will probably be the same price to insure as a 1.0E and the tax will be cheaper

Re: 1.0E or 1.4E as a first car?
Thanks for the advice everyone. Think I'm going for a 1.0E as like JackClap said it's not worth paying the extra on insurance for 10bhp
I had a look last night at 1.4TDI's but the quotes were insane. I think it's because I quoted for the 1.4 S TDI, is there any cheaper/more basic models that would be cheaper for the insurance?

Bit of a different suggestion, but I had a Fabia as my first proper car - the 1.4 16v with 100bhp. Pretty nippy and due to the old man image quite cheap insurance. Same mechanically as the 9n* Polos too.
Don't they also do a 75bhp 1.4 6n2? Or a 1.9SDi - slow as the 1.0, but awesome MPG!

Yeah they do 1.4 16V 75bhp and ofcourse the 100bhp which are pretty rare
The 1.9SDI's are to be avoided, amazing fuel economy but they are painfully slow, any Diesel without a turbo are gutless unfortunately.
I thought the insurance on the 1.4 TDI would be quiet reasonable considering they are only a 3 cylinder (6 valve)?
