The Up has similarly powered engines which are cleaner, quicker, and the space is almost the same. It looks to me that there is a big question mark over the future of the Polo, and even the quicker Polos' sales could be compromised with the introduction of the Up GT-What do you Guys think?
Like most car makers, VW are always pushing their models up market. Once the Golf was bottom of their range, now the Polo is the same size as the Golf III.

The marketing theory is that once they have you satisfied with the brand and dealer service, when you come to replace your car you find that it has grown into something bigger, better and more expensive, of course.

The UP replaces the Lupo, not the Polo. My dealer described the current Polo as the "Golf Killer" as a number of customers, myself included, traded their rather basic Golfs in for top of the range Polos. I got all the trim and accessories and looks of the Golf inside all in a slightly smaller package outside at about 25% less than the equivalent Golf.

I guess the same is true of the lower-end Polos and top of the range UPs. VW are not daft, they have even covered the joins between their model ranges...

I think addict means is that the 60 and 70ps are just too small for the polo, and as a result you're pushing the engine to its limits all the time just to pull the car's own weight and keep up with traffic, resulting in poor mpg to the point where extra costs incurred on insurance with a larger engine are probably offset by the fuel savings!
only if u wanna push it, u don't need to push it any were, LOW n SLOW it the future of German motoring, i get a lot of MPG out of mine, and your barely every have to take it over 2000rpm unless ya on motorway, or wanting to get up someone ares too p*** them off coz they have cut u up, but why do that wen i can just turn my HIDs up to blind the C.U.N.T

They're not really that quick. Very fun to drive, but not quick at all imo. It's a shame so many of them have been ruined, very difficult to find a completely standard one now :(

123bhp out of a car that weights just over a 1000kg, 0-60mph in 8seconds, and top speed of 130mph, all out of a little 1600cc,

I would call that fast, what do u consider fast, a lambo, a Aston martin or a Ferrari, but how many working class ppl can get one of them

PS a defo agree on a fun car, it a epic car too drive, leaves these crumy VTS's and French GTi's in its dust, well from my own experience, and i agree no were u can find a standard Lupo any were never mind a GTI lol

Well my other car is an Aston Martin, and tbh that isn't really that fast.

They are pretty fast for a little supermini, but a BMW 320d will probably beat it! I will still get a completely unmolested example for my collection someday :)
