2010 Polo Questions

Post by robtminnican »

hi im posting on here for my girlfriend as her warranty is about to run out on her 2010 1.2 polo 3cyl and just wanted to ask a few questions,

1. shes wanting to put rear speakers into the door cards in the back but how do they come out? also what size are the speakers? and will the wiring be there in the back of the head unit for the 4 new speaker wires? or will she have to get a new head unit? e.g. putting spade connectors on the new wires and adding them into the existing loom?

2. her headlights are rubbish so was gonna put some h4 osram nightbreakers in for her but i read somewhere that you have to take the wheel arch plastic inner out to get to the back of the headlight is this true or can you just take the whole unit out making it easier? if so where are the torx and bolts to take out? because theres millions lol

3. what grade of engine oil does it take? and how much oil? how often should it be changed? as shes only had 1 service in 20k? and that doesnt seem right to me? i change mine every 5k in my puma engined fiesta which it says to do in the haynes manual but im guessing there wont be one for the new polo will there? ha

4. also i might just be dreaming it but there are polos with the smaller monza style wheels off of a golf gti? are these multi fits or a standard item? as shes wanting some of them too to change her steelies ha

any help with this would be greatly appreciated cheers

In response to 2. it is easy to remove the head light unit. Disconnect the cable then undo two screws on the top and pull the unit foward.

1)
The door speakers are held in with pop rivets. Once you have the door card off, you have to drill out the rivets and either fabricate some kind of ounting system or look for Mk4 Golf/9N Polo adaptors for the speakers. In regards to the wiring, I have not looked in depth enough on the 6R to give you an informed opinion but on my old Mk4 Golf, it was as simple as cut, crimp and plug.

2)
As above, 2 screws, pull forward.

3)
Not 100% sure as we don't get that model in Oz, but all the others use 504/507 grade 5W-30 fully synthetic. Wait for one of the more savvy members to post I think.

4)
Yes, there are, there are the 16" version off the 9N Polo GTi but the 6R Polo GTI uses 17" (same as the Golf GTI) albeit slightly narrower than the golf. Yes, the polo versions are a direct bolt on replacement, the golf ones are not.

1) the wiring will just require crimping the existing ones to the new ones
