Stuck oil filter

Post by gti-joe »

Well this year decided to do the oil and filter change on the Polo GTI myself as fed up paying other folk to do what is a fairly simple job lol. Stuck at the 1st hurdle lol, cant get the filter off, the flaming garage that did it last year must have really tightened that thing up hard. Have one of the VW filter tools that fits on the end and then a ratchet and bar is used, but no joy the fecker wont move, and yes I am turning it the right way before you ask.

Now there aint much room in there to use other types of tools or the good old trusty screwdriver through the filter method so looking for suggestions or trusted methods to remove the filter.

These are good if you have enough space

I got my GTI filter off with some of these :) Sometimes though, the screwdriver way is the only way to get them off if they are too right...I found this out on my 6n2, what a mess!

Have you taken off the small under-tray at the front? Makes it so much easier!

I was in the same position as you!!!!! Cursing, crying :P and offering it drinks didnt help.

So went to halfords and got one of these http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stor ... yId_255216
and within 15mins it was off.

You basically need a half inch wrench!!!! It gets a good grip on the oil filter.

Update on this. Bought this from the bay,

Bosh, job done, yay. Got a good grip on the filter in the confined space and off it came, would reccomend it if anyone else has the same problem.
