Tyre wear

Post by George H »

How many miles have people on here got out of their tyres on a 6R GTI? I swapped my front and back wheels today and couldn't believe how worn they are after just 9k miles! I don't particularly rag the car and haven't even done a track day in it, seems a lot of wear to me.

Has anyone changed their tyres for different ones than the Dunlops provided as standard? If so what for? I was considering Bridgestone RE050s as I have them on my other car and they seem very good. Anyone any experience with them on a Polo? :)

I'm almost at the 16.000 kilometres. My front tyres are looking the same like yours. Need to be switched to the rear.

That's what you get with front wheel driven cars with spicey power! :P

Edit: It looks like your wheels are not standing straight. More with some camber. The inside has way more wear!

They got a good cleaning whilst they were off with Bilberry wheel cleaner :)

Glad it's not just me then. Are you going to replace them with the Dunlop Sportmaxx or go for some different ones? :)

I think I'll replace them for Falken FK-452's. Reading decent reviews about them and they don't cost you 130+ euro's a tire. :)

Im bold too come to think of it and im only on 25......? Oh sorry........were talking tyres......

Im actually still ok with good tread all round and im on 11000 miles.

Ive had a few sets of 452's (as pictured above) and they punch well above there wieght to be fair....worth a look.

P.S

Are your toes made of Lead???

 I didn't think I really drove that hard, never let it wheel spin or anything but I do enjoy cornering fast 8)

I might look into those Falkens too, thanks. I'm currently looking at either Bridgestone RE050s, Michelin Pilot Exalto 2s :)
