What is this leak? and is it a problem? (pics)

Hello!

My 1999 6n has a load of oily black stuff on the side of the engine, could anybody tell me if this is a problem or not? its my first car ,it is running fine, but im pretty sure that stuff shouldn't be there.

Likely to be the distributor oil seal - easy enough to replace

Either that or a failed rocker cover gasket
