My Dials?

Alright, does anybody know how to do the following:
How do u get my MK4 dials to light up like the New passats and golfs, polos ect... U know the blue and red neon colours!

if so could u explain to me what parts i need and how to change them? cheers

Hi Black_Polo,

(and welcome btw)

What year is your car again? If it's pre 1998, you have the older style gauges. I have these too. They're lighted from the front, using green bulbs.

Ugly indeed.

If you've got the new ones, they are already lit from the back (as all new gauges/dials are) so it'll match your goal even better.

In both cases, you'll need to take out the cluster, open it up, and replace the old lights with new Led's. Most people go for blue. It's been done very, very often already in Germany that I know of, so it's doable. Fiddly too.

But, if you're good with a soldering iron and electronics, you'll probably enjoy the experience. For me it's a nightmare.

Thanks for the offer Ash, but I've seen the old style cluster with blue leds, and IMO it looks... well... nasty, really. Perhaps I just saw a poorly done cluster, but since the dials are illuminated from the front, it's just not the same cool Mk5/6 look I'd expected.
