No such thing as a mk5 polo!

Post by ttrd »

Guys, I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings, but there's no such thing as a mk5 polo!

mk1 - the first, obviously
mk2 - bread van, my first.
mk2 phase 2 - bread van and coupe with facelift G40 etc
mk3 - the roundy one
mk3 phase 2 - mk3 with facelift and suspension tweaks. 2000 - 02ish, GTi etc.
mk4 - current 'tough new polo'
mk4 phase 2 just announced, not out yet.

 Sorry.

mk2 or 86c = hatchback (breadvan) coupe or saloon (derby)
2f = hatchback coupe or saloon again :-)

Thats the way you would think it works, but commonly the different model codes are just refered to as different marks so:

86: Mark1
86c: Mark2
2f: Mark3 (mark2 facelift, hence f)
6n: Mark4
6n2: Mark5 (mark4 facelift)
9n: Mark6
(possibly) 9n2: Mark7 (mark6 facelift)

Thats how we work round here anyway :D

Some people also call the Mark 5 the Mark 4 (as in 6n) facelift or phase 2. Confusing, no. :?:

there are so many different ways of saying what model ur car is! keep to the 6n2! its the best way!

also, we've found it easier to just tell companys wot the year of the car is! makes things a hell of alot easier when buying stuff! 8)

Ok, for the sake of argument from this point forward the polo shown in the picture below is a MK5, if ya don't like it, I believe you can swivel.

Its confusing enough to try an work out what the hell they call them at VW.

I also heard on the grapevine that there will be no next polo as the lupo has taken its place, however, the design will continue and be badged an Audi A50, to fill audi's missing smaller car. I'm not sure how true this is, but it would be interesting, as then the polo would have gone full circle and go back from whence it came the audi 50. All things being equal it probably won't make any difference, but it might cost more.

95& sure that wont happen as the A2 is already on the 9n chassis so it would split the sales market and the number of derivitives on the same chassis would split the consumer market causing possible lost sales as people take longer to decide and while there deciding they might go else where
