Top Mounts - Suggestions please!!!!

Post by POLOZ »

Hi Guys,

After fitting the coilovers, I can hear slight 'clunk' noise when I move from stationary. Also when I shake the car, I can hear this clunk noise more significantly.

I am definately sure the top mounts are not tight enough. I tried my best to get it tight but after hearing the noise, I tried to tighten it using a 22mm socket from the top
but the allen nut in the middle is rotating with the top bolt.

Not sure on how to get it more tight?

Any suggestions please?

I was able to get the top mounts tightened.

Just a questions, when I shake the car the top mounts can be seen moving? Is this normal?
Pretty sure it is but just checking :)

Anybody?

Even though I tightened the top mount bolts, it keeps making strange 'thud' noise when I get into the car or steer.
Its definitely from the top mounts. Also when I shake the car, I can see the top mounts moving from the engine bay (from the holes on the top of the suspension mounts)

Suggestions please?

My wife's polo had noisy top mounts and it turned out when they removed them they were cracked and split into two parts.
Might be worth removing the struts and having a look at the top mounts.

Bearings are brand new aswell!!! Only thing they are not OEM (bought it from euro Car parts) as there was a nationwide shortage of bearings from VW....

Strange, I had that before... I've broken 2 sets, although if your are new, haven't really had a chance to damage them.

Given how prone to failure the OEM ones are, not sure you could do much worse...

Is it like a twang noise? How low have u lowered it? Is there tension between the top mount and spring when it's off the car? Or is there only tension when the cars weight is on them?

Yea man it is exactly like a 'twang' noise. I still have about 40mm of thread left.
The spring has tension both when it down and jacked up......Are you saying it could
be because there is no helper springs?
