Philips Extreme-vision (100% extra light), pretty good so far. It was either these or the Osram's, I chose Philips in the end because a solid deal came up. It would be good to see a side-by-side comparison of them both though =)
If I change to Osrams I'll put one bulb in each light and see how they look

I'd like to know this too. I have come from a Clio 182 which had xenon headlights, so I find my headlights in my Polo abit cack if I'm being honest.
Are the GTi using the same bulbs as my TDi?
Best bulbs wanted! Also, how do you change them?

Patience
A small engine in your Polo is recommended, but not essential. 1.8Ts and 1.9TDis take note.
For the headlight bulbs you have to take off the larger rubber cap on the back of the headlight units. Feel inside and you should feel a metal clip holding the bulb in place, firstly unplug the wiring to the bulb (give it a tug, from memory it may have a clip you need to squeeze first), then for the bulb clip, it's the one where you have to squeeze the two parallel rail bits together to get the clip to release on its wee hinge. Once free, pulled out of the unit and visible, wearing latex gloves(!) note the metal ring between the clip and the bulb, (which is loose so don't drop it) remove the bulb and and replace, then put back together in reverse. The clip can be a real pig to get back in place but after the first bulb you should have the knack of it. The bulb should feel solid in the holder and be 'upright' (look through the headlight lens beforehand to help determine 'upright')
For more well-endowed Polos I found it helpful especially on the offside headlight to temporarily relocate the one fuel line in the way as it leaves the filter, and insert your hand behind (no giggling at the back) the filter and along the wing. As for the nearside, you may need to remove the battery.
I accept no responsibility for damage to property or injury incurred to you/your tiny Asian friend by carrying out the words in this guide. Do so at your own risk.
Re: What Bulbs are people using?
Hi there,
I used to have MTEC Cosmos Blue White H7 bulbs. They looked awesome but they don't last very long. They get kinda dim I think after a year. But they are cheap and wonderful though. I bought mine through hids-direct. Currently I've got the Osram Cool Blue Hyper White H7 5000K, which offers both vision on the roads, high reflectivity from road signs and a bluish style hue in the headlights which obviously oncoming vehicles can see
Looking to change back to those MTECs soon as I miss their unique HID effect lighting.
