I think my clutch is going...? clutch upgrades...

Post by Mr Blobby »

The is probably a simple question to some of you but I cant be sure myself.
My clutch has recently changed how it feels, when I change gear the clutch pedal doesnt really have any resistance or obvious biting point it just feels super light.
So my question is, is there a way to tell if your clutch is on its way out?

Also, if it needs replacing I my as well upgrade it. So what upgrades are you running and what flywheels is best?

Cheers! :)

heyhey,

try using the old "car buyer" trick :

handbrake on , 2nd gear in , let the clutch come...

engine stops on 3/4 of the way or before -> good

after -> not so good.

i would go for a sachs clutch and more important the sachs clutch-cable (because the original is crap, watch out because of the righthand drive).

also i would change the bearing on the clutch-pedal as its often making problems with groaning.

example links (in german - sorry) :

take care

Yeah I tried that trick but it seemed to be okay, but I didn't know if there were any other ways of telling if it was wrong :/

Floor it in like 3rd gear going about 40-50 MPH, if the rev counter goes nuts but their is little pull from the car your clutch is slipping

Mine also did it in 4th and 5th if you floored it on the motorway

This is how I knew mine was on its way out

The dual mass flywheels on the g60 and vr6 setups produce a hell of a lot of clutch chatter it absolutely drove me mad!

G60 flywheel is single mass.

The weight of the std G60 flywheel doesn't produce any chatter.

Thanks for giving me the ebay numbers. It ended up about £120 cheaper than my local tuner :) I will be getting the flywheel lightened next week and have it all in hopefully next friday. hope my car lasts that long on this clutch...

If you lighten the flywheel it will produce chatter.

When you receive the flywheel could you weigh it?

Couldn't be a VR6 flywheel as they are too big.

So are you using a stock VW G60 flywheel and getting chatter?

Have been informed they weigh over 14lbs so don't produce chatter as per the ECS one's that awesome sell?
