Polo GTi front grill

Post by Jordi »

Hello.

I'm after a Polo GTi front grille - the honeycombe mesh with the red outer line round the outside. I've had a look on e-bay and they have a few but from Hong Kong! Is there any where in the UK I can get one? Also, the photos on ebay show the grill with the VW badge missing - how do I fit a new one, does it just slip in? Could I use my existing one from my standard grill? My badge now seems to be stuck on, so I guess not? Be a case of buying a new badge, too?

Thanks in advance.

As for the badge, if it is the same as the GTI one it should be just a case of twisting it (cant remember which direction) and then carefully bend a plastic tab back a bit and pulling forward and out if I remember correctly.

Cool. But yeah, that one has the middle bit missing again. So I am going to need to fit a new one in there. How do I fit a new one?

Didn't gti-joe explaine it? You twist your old vw badge out and put it I the new one! Like he said.

OK. And how does the actual grill come out? Any clips or anything?

open the bonnet and you will see 4 torx screws holding the grill!

unscrew them and slowly pull the grill out and that's it!

for the vw badge, you put your fingers in it and turn it to the LEFT and pull it out; the original vw badge fits right in the new gti grill!

The gti grill needs you to lift 4 tabs at the bottom before you can remove it

You can stick a flat screw driver in through the grill to lift those tabs

I'm not removing the GTi grill - I'm fitting it. As long as it's a straight swap then I'm going to buy it.

Thanks for your help.

Just a quick note also the four screws are torx (star shaped) not the usual cross/flathead screws.
The slatted grill is easily removed once the four screws are out, as said above when fitting the gti you need a screwdriver(flathead) to help get the tabs to grip onto the bumper.
Its kind of obvious when your doing it.
Just have a quick look at the part when it arrives and you will see what needs to be done and where!!
