Fitting exhaust trim?

My polo doesn't have a gap in the rear bumper for the exhaust. Is it possible to have a space cut out?

I have the 1.2 TDI too and I did fit a L shaped pipe over the exhaust and it looked pathetic, now on the look out for a 1.4/SEL rear bumper in silver to come up on eBay

Yeah I was thinking about that and didn't think it would suit it. Think I'll leave it if it'd have to be a new bumper
