1999 1.6 polo can't get in gear

Hi all
My 1999 polo engine code AEE can't get in gear, the gear stick is incredibly hard to get into first and second especially when the car has warmed up. I've adjusted the gear selector and the clutch cable but neither of them fixed the problem.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated
