When the time comes to sell the car any potential buyer will always question if the Milage is genuine due to the clocks having been swapped. Would certainly put me off
why?

don't judge a book by it's cover. Springs to mind
when buying a car look at several items to see what the mileage could be
So you would be happy to buy a car which has had the clocks swapped with no proof of what it should be ?

Yes, I upgraded the clock in my Golf

You are concerned that by changing the clocks means that you are buying a car that has been clocked.

Consider the following:

1. A car that has the original clocks can be clocked just as easily and cheaply. (just google mileage correction)
2. The ECU and DSG mechatronics stores the mileage although this can be changed too with the right tool
3. MOT and VW service history is all stored online, so by looking here makes it difficult to clock a car by a large amount in one go. The car would need to be clocked yearly, which would be expensive.
4. Vehicle condition is the best clue and checking all the paper work. Including the history of the owner (job? company owner?)
5. Most people wouldn't even know the clocks were changed anyway

I wouldn't consider any of that as I would just move onto the next car for sale that hasn't had the clocks swapped

fine how would you know that the car YOU think is standard hasn't been clocked?
also how would you know that the original clocks hadn't been put back in when they sell it?

also if the job was done at the dealer the mileage would have been recorded.
I find cars that have been owned by and modified by chavs a much more of a turn off then doing an OEM retrofit modification

Nothing is bullet proof and yes any car can be clocked but for me there would be more of a temptation to skim a few miles off when swapping them

Like I said before if your happy to buy a car with non original clocks that's up to you but I certainly wouldn't touch one

I have changed several clusters, can't say I have had the temptation to change it to anything other than what was in the cluster that I replaced.
I would rather have a nice cluster than a poverty one

And I would rather have a car that's genuine

If I wanted a car that wasn't poverty spec I buy the top model ;)

my cars are genuine and I like adding OEM items

Don't think I could live with DSG every day

That fine and you have built a fine example of a golf and you are obviously happy other it.

If I was looking to buy a car and noticed your on autotrader I wouldn't touch it

However if I knew you or I knew the car through a forum I would prob go for it as you know the history and its owner and you know everything has been done right and its genuine
