tuning my gti

Post by quinnygti »

right over the past few days ive been deciding what way im going to go next tuning wise and I think im going to get a bam engine, change con-rods for forged ones and keep the ko4 set-up, has this been done before? my m8 has a leon cupra r and stage 2 is now running 285bhp and 320lb, so this sort of power would be great in our polos. I cant see why it wouldn't work are there any problems with space. my dads a fabricator so if pipework needs modifying then that is no problem. i no the difference between the k03s and ko4 are the manifold and down pipe and a slightly bigger turbo intake but thought if I get the 3 inch milltech down pipe i could get a reducer and fit it to my 2.5 milltech system im currently running. any ideas?

Think the k.04 fouls on the bulk head.

I'd just forge your bottom end and get a big port head and a t28 based turbo.

JBS do a bolt on hybrid K03/K04 turbo with manifold and other bits required. It's about £3k all in with remap and a solid 265 bhp... It can obviously be send in the posts and you do it yourself and get the mapping at your local tuner :)

Otherwise I'd say to forge your bottom end and get a better turbo. That way you aren't messing around with an unknown and it should work pretty sweetly :D

K04 fits! Custom manifold will do the job..

9N3 turbo enters at this point and backs me up.. Haven't done it personally but know someone who has..

K04 fits.

All those saying other wise are left hand drive so their ABS thing fouls.

In our car the whole thing will bolt in.

If using the BAM ENGINE you'll want a single pass intercooler like mine but you'll have to relocate the batter to do so.

Just think about it if I can get my big turbo and Jabba manifold in there then k04 will get in there no problem. It's based roughly the same. The way the downpipe is and the turbo is bigger.

Fill your boots mate

Don't even need custom manifold although if I were doing it I would have to have the JBS manifold as its the best on the market

Thanks for the advice just trying to find an engine with low mileage and with everything on it. 9n3 turbo has set the standard!

hmm, pointless project if you ask me...
in first place, why do you want to change the rods etc on a BAM engine?
they are stock alot stronger as the ones we have in our BJX engines and they can handle 350Hp without a problem.
so if you are not going to run +350Hp i think it's pointless of spending money on something that is allready more as good enough for what you want...

second, a BAM engine can fit in theory without a problem, but note that a K04-023 (wich is mostly used on BAM engines) have the ilet en outlet of the turbo on the opposite side of a K03s wich we mostly have.
so to get everything sorted out and get it to fit well you will have alot of work coming youre way...
conclusion, the stock engine (BJX) is strong enough to handle 300Hp SAFE!
so put rods etc in the stock engine and you will have a far more stronger engine as the BAM one... so why change?
if you want to upgrade the BJX engine just put a big port cilincer head on it from a BAM engine, it does not much but it's better.

About turbo choise, a K04-023 from a BAM does not fit in a polo, like i said, they are opposite to oure K03s.
to much work to sort it out and get it to fit, remove and relocate ABS, create space to fit it etc.. believe me, not done in a moment.
K04-001 does fit bolt on without any other problems.
take a hybrid version of it and you will run 290Hp safe and without the problems of putting a BAM engine and get everything to fit.
let alone the cost of rods etc...

if you do want another engine with more potential, take a Golf V GTI 2.0 TFSi engine.
it will fit pretty directly in our polo's because it has the same attachment points (believe it or not but it is)
you sill also have to create some space and relocate stuff but at least you have a 2.0L TFSi in it wich is pretty unique!
and if you want serious power, take a GTI Edition 30 engine with 230Hp, decent remap on it with exhaust and you will see the 310-320Hp mark passing.
but you might switch the gearbox to a regular GTI one, because the GB from a ED30 is WAY to short to run with +300Hp and youre 1st gear will become useless at all times.
even in rain up to 3th gear wheelspin is no exeption... in a golf!
imagine in a polo
so imho i think this is a more rewarding engineswap as a BAM wich is roughly the same as what you have now...

just my 2 cents, hope it helps

yer what you said makes sence was looking for about 300bhp, il have to re-think my plans then. a lad at work said about forging my standard engine and getting the big valve head. the only thing is the hybrid turbo apparently there not very good to map as the spike, nothing then boost. is it alot of work to fit a gt28rs, is there a custom manifold made for our polos to fit this?
