Nuts! Dead keyfob battery..

Post by Si_GTi »

Hi guys,

Got home yesterday and got out of car to go in the house, and in doing so turned and remote-locked my car. Or at least that was what was supposed to happen! Looks like the battery has died in the keyfob, not even the little red LED in the key lights up when buttons are pressed! So for now I've switched to my 2nd key, but what I want to know is if anyone can tell me how much VW are likely to charge for fitting a new battery to the dead key? Or is it a job I can do myself?

Also when I collected the car last September, I got it home and played about with all the switches and buttons and things and found a 3rd key in the coin tray!! Its got gaffer tape wrapped round it and tbh I haven't tried blipping the car with it but wooo! Extra key! Might come in handy in emergencies, like if the 2nd key dies before I get the 1st key fixed lol...

Thanks

I think a new battery from the dealers costs about £4, last time mine went they had to recode it, think this costs about £15-£20!
But I sent the missus and they did it for nothing
