Anyone Driven Abroad?

Hi,
I know that it is the law when you drive abroad to make sure that your lights are correctly adjusted. Normally you stick a defelctor in the scatter triangle on the lens. The Mk5 doesn't have this, as its totally clear.

Most cars with clear lenses have a switch that adjusts the bulb to minimise scatter to the left. I can't find any details in the manual about how to adjust the lights if this is the way you do it. I have looked very closely at the beam units, and they are handed. So how are you expected to drive abroad?

(PS no comments about why you would want to drive abroad please)

You could try asking polo2k on this forum, hes got a mk5 and im sure hes spent some time in France or is still in France. Although I think his car was from France in the 1st place. Might be worth speaking to him though.

hi there my polo is a lhd with the lhd lights still (anyone want to sell me a set of rhd ones?) all i do is adjust the dip downwards with the switch next to the headlight switch. im also running xenons at 8000k and they dont cause much problem

Oh dear, im off to France this weekend in the Tdi, not made any adjustments to the lights or anything, think i will just act numb and see what happens if i get stopped

You will also have to check the laws in each country, as some you have to carry a first aid kit and a warning triangle... by law!

I don't think that you can play dumb...

I've seen cars with crystal headlights with the light-swerving-stickery-things on... Go to halfords and have a look a a pack.. the ones I bought last year had a pretty comprehensive list of models and the correct position of the stickers with them.

Ended up flying Ryanair from Stanstead to France for Â£48 return and hired a SEAT LEON 1.9TDi Sport instead in France, no-one in France had any different lights etc or yellow plastic lenses, even the GB cars out there, no-one seemed to bother !

i never bothered when i went to denmark. just dipped them. you have to carry spare bulbs as well but whats the point you carnt change them without taking the engine out.
