1995 VW Polo Heater Fan Issue (And cut wire) help?

Post by coffee_king »

Hi there
My 1995 1.3l VW Polos heater fan hasnt been working for ages now (it used to be a bit hit and miss but now it wont blow on 1, 2 or 3) so I decided to try and fix it today. After reading a few posts (and pulling the centre console apart) I found the resistor in the footwell of the passengers side.

I gave it a bit of a waggle and it all came to life. So I started putting it all back together again and thought I would check if it still worked about half way through, but its stopped working again.............typical.
Any suggestions? Th eingle wire going in doesnt look to great but I dont seem to be able to pull the plastic male terminal out of the female that its attached to.
Also I have a cut wire (Not my doing) nearby the resistor, any idea what (if anything) this should be attached to?

Just to note when the fan heater came to life earlier, this cut wire WAS NOT attached.

Ive attached some images.

Where does the cut wire come from? and go to? Looks like it goes through the firewall to the engine bay.

The heater resistor plug looks damaged - especially the red wire

This couldve damaged the resistor pack so may need replacing.

I must assume into engine bay but I cant see where it goes then. Its goes through the rubber gromit in the footwell.

Yes, that red wire doesnt look to good does it. I cant actually pull its plastic adapter out of the main black plastic thingy.

Any ideas what the part number of the resistor pack is as I cant find it on Euro Car Parts website.

Cheers

The red wire needs to be sorted out for safety and a good connection. Best option is to get a new plug and a VW repair wire, and replace the damaged section.

Youll need to follow that black wire and see what it leads to on the other side - awkward I know, but it needs to be ruled out

Part number is 1H0959263

The heat blower resistor ive now pulled out states Valeo France H17834912X on it. So is 1H0959263 definitely its correct replacement? It sounds like they changed the Polo in 1995 (Mines a 1995), so anyone know if its this one or the previous model that I'd need. Also does anyone know the previous part number if necessary.

I had to cut through that red wire to get the whole unit off as the plastic male end its attached to on the resistor unit wouldnt come out.
Now Ive got it in the house Ive manage to pull it out of the resisitor unit with some pliers, but its all melted and has completely had it. Where will I get a new male end for the red wire from please?

That is the valeo specific part number. The one I have provided is the VW part number needed to get a replacement. I can guarantee you it is correct.

Youll need to go to VW and get the part number appropriate for the rest of the housing, and they should be able to provide the repair wire too. Im not sure if youll be able to read the part number printed onto the rest of the housing that it was located in as you said it was melted.

The wiring housing *might* be 191972751

I cant give you an accurate wiring number for the housing, but VW should be able to provide that based on the rating/thickness of the red cable. It looks like it might be 1.5mm, thought I cant tell from here.

Alternatively, go to a scrap yard, find the resistor and cut the red wire off with 6 inches to spare, and crimp it onto your red cable.

Nice one. Theres still enough decent wire on the end of the red wire to add someway of connecting it back onto the new unit.

I can actually nearly see a part number on the side of this little black connector

it says

AMP
1-929803 -1

or it might say
1-929603 -1

or it might say
1-929*0* -1

(Replace stars with any number you like)

Any ideas?

Ok, so that is the right part number i gave you. That was a pretty good bit of investigation!

191972751 AMP 1-929 603-1

AMP are the manufacturer in this instance.

Now all I need to know is what gauge the red wire is to give you the right VW repair wire part number.

000979135E Thats 1.0mm cable
000979227E Thats 2.5mm cable

I would say its probably the 2.5mm cable

That should be the right wire for the plug, though VW can confirm that once they have the housing part number.

Its the 2.5mm red cable
So I need
000979227E
then yeah?

Is this going to be VERY hard and specific to find (Unless theres some Polos in scrap yards?)

I've just googled that number and this kind of image keeps coming up.

But I need the plastic housing too.

Go to your local VW dealer and ask for

1 of 191972751 (housing)
1 of 000979227E (repair wire)

Will cost under a fiver

That will give you the housing and the repair wire you need to fix the problem

You should use a blue crimp joiner to join the two cables together as opposed to soldering it.

Is this going to be a main VW parts dealer only as nothing is coming up on eBay for these part numbers?
Thanks

Yes. Youll have to speak to a VW dealer for these parts.
