6n2 GTi vs Polo GT 1.9 130 bhp

Post by kimbo »

Has anyone had the petrol 6n2 1.6 GTi and moved onto the diesel 1.9 tdi with 130 bhp?

I didn't realise they did that 130bhp model. I guess the tdi has a lot more torque but does it feel noticeably faster?

I drove a Skoda Fabia VRS the other day and it felt very quick compared to the 1.6. Maybe my imagination.

From what I understand the 1.9TDI comes in a GT and a Sport. The Sport being the slightly quicker one,at 8.9 0-60 time.So almost on Par with the 1.6 GTI.It will mentally feel quicker the Diesel because of the turbo that increases torque.

The 9n has the GT badge and a pd130 engine with a 6 speed box. This is the one you mentioned with the twin headlights.

The 9n3 (facelift) brought out a model with the same pd130 engine and six speed box, but only in an 06 plate. It's simply called a 1.9 tdi Sport and is almost indistinguishable from the 1.9 tdi Sport with a pd100 engine (apart from a sixth gear) There will probably be a reference on the V5 form too.

I'm not aware of any performance difference between the GT and 9n3 Pd130 but there may well be a slight one! Obviously the pd100 is slower than the two.

The 9n3 pd130 is rare though and you may want to pick up a pd100 with the spec, colour and doors you want, upgrade the turbo and injectors as these are seen as the weak points, then map it to 170 ish. Or leave the lot in and get a remap to 130 :D

Hope this helps!

Anything with a turbo will always feels quicker than a N/A Petrol due to the power delivery, the sensation of speed is always different without a turbo.

The GTI has a smooth gradual power delivery which won't throw your head into the back of the seat but it certainly does get down the road.
I did several tests with my mates Fabia vRS when it was standard and there was literally nothing between that and my old GTI, infact the GTI will start creeping away after 90mph.

The main difference between the two cars comes into play on hills because TDI's produce more torque than they do power (often 100 lbs feet more than the BHP figure) so expect to be left behind if your going up a steep hill :) the mid range power in diesels is pretty epic so they make light work of overtaking.

You can have great fun in a TDi whilst returning MPG... the downside is they sound awful and don't feel very sporty to drive

True that ^ Interesting to hear the Vrs and the 6n2 gti were neck and neck until you get close to a ton, that's where diesels just run out of poke since the fuel doesn't burn quick enough! The sound is awful but you can help improve that with lubricity enhancers (2 stroke anyone?) like millers which is said to keep the noise of the injector pumps down. That or a loud stereo :P

55 avg. mpg does it for me though, it's the new mph
