Re: Using Oil!
well just been in to the dealers to pick up my car as it went in a few weeks ago for its 2nd service and i told them that its still using a lot of oil even though i have had a new engine fitted 8000 mile ago, so i was told to do a 600 miles do not fill up the oil and bring it back, i checked the dip stick before it went back in bone dry so i thought great they cant argue with that but oh yes.
i was told it was on the limit of with in normal useage of 1lt of oil to 600 miles and they aslo fitted a modified 2 times breather hose and a ecu update has just come out this week and he told me it should be spot on from now on , but still telling me about the 1lt to 600 mile is ok, so im now doing my own 600 mile test again to see if its worked , will update with info soon.

Re: Using Oil!
600 miles to 1 litre is certainly NOT ok. I had this argument also.
Re: Using Oil!
In Europe the manual user says that the limit is 1 liter per 2.000Kms, so for you should be 1liter every 1242miles...
They cannot contest what the user manual states...

Re: Using Oil!
Well just done 647 miles and checked the oil, and i was shocked to still see some oil on the dip stick.
So filled it back up and used 700ml which is far from perfect but better than 5 weeks ago where i did 603 miles and put in 1.5 lts, so the twice modified breather hose and the ecu update has helped a little.
VW new years resolution MUST TRY HARDER. ![Laughing ](./images/smilies/icon_lol.gif)

Re: Using Oil!
Just a thought, those of you with long-standing higher oil consumption issues should also try pushing for a new cat after a successful fix, as I would have thought your old one would now have considerably less life in it. Just thinking of the big picture
O2 sensor too perhaps.![Confused :?](./images/smilies/icon_confused.gif)

Re: Using Oil!
Yes - I asked this at the dealer, but to be honest, they are not interested in the cat. I have just had a new engine fitted and mentioned about the cat after warranty expires, but they won't entertain any extended warranty on it. The only crumbs of comfort in this respect is that they know from the cars history it has had oil consumption problems so there is a reasonable chance you could get a goodwill payment out of them. I know what will happen though, the cynic in me says that with any failure they will come back and say it is not related to excessive oil consumption!Ben90 wrote:Just a thought, those of you with long-standing higher oil consumption issues should also try pushing for a new cat after a successful fix, as I would have thought your old one would now have considerably less life in it. Re: Are You Using Oil?
My car is going back in for it's 30k service on Thursday and they will be running further tests regarding the oil consumption.

Re: Are You Using Oil?
Your in same situation I was, breather mod did not make any difference to mine. If anything (surprisingly) the oil consumption was slightly worse.
Next stop for you, new engine.
Mine would appear to be ok now after VW replaced the engine, early days though.

Re: Are You Using Oil?
Car had its 30k miles service last week.
It has to go back in 625 miles to get the oil weighed to find out how much it has used.
