What a mess

That looks like 4 thin and 2 thicker wires on the actual loom - can you check?

If im right by that, you will need the following

2 of 000979133A (1.0mm)
1 of 000979225A (2.5mm)

They are double ended, so that gives you the 6 leads you need. Plus these are the gold plated connections needed for Lambda sensors.

Youll also need to get 6 x blue heatshrink crimp joiners (youll need a heatgun to shrink them down and seal them). Maplin sell them with code AR61R

Releasing the pins is a bit fiddly. Youll need to slide out the purple pin out of the plug, then use a bent paperclip like this

to release the damaged wires by putting it in the grooves like this



Not the same plug, but you get the idea - replace them one by one so they go back in the right order!!

It is vital that you remove the damaged wire first, and remove the little silicone blue wire seal and put that on the new wire before you crimp them up otherwise they are near impossible to fit.

Also, once you are finished, wrap the loom in loom tape or a plastic braid similar to what VW use to protect the wires for the future.

I have checked again - 4 thin, 2 thicker.

How long are the wires - will they be enough length to allow me to cut out all the messed up sections?

From an online search they seem cheap enough - should my local VW garage stock these (Ill call anyways).

They come in 30cm lengths, so you just cut them in half giving you a 15mm tail for each wire

Should cost about a tenner for the lot including the crimps

If your local VW garage doesnt stock them, they can certainly order them in for you.

Thing is - just checked - from the car, 4 are thin. Near the plug, someone has gone from thin to fat. I presume the 2 x 2.5mm are for the heating element (needs more current) and the other 4 are for measurement etc.

Correct - they need to be matched to what the car loom has NOT the plug as someone has obviously made a right mess.

Ok, spoke to the local VW dealership. They dont have them in stock but can get or I can get from a sister company in Bolton.

He has however said that the part number has been superceded / replaced with EA at the end. Does this sound correct?

Sounds right. EA is the newer code. I pulled it from a slightly older copy of the software as I couldnt find what I needed elsewhere

Ok, got the wires - trying to do it now.

You refer to a purple pin to slide out - which part is that?

I can see the blue silicon - thats on the inside - so using a paperclip - I should be able to push the ping out from the rear?

Ok, new problem. The fatter wires have a different thinner head that does not fit over the part where they should connect to. I have bought extra of the small (and large) so tempted to do this now to at least get teh car back on the road. Another option is to just solder wires onto the existing wiring but could have done this days ago without getting these 'proper' wires.

I wont be able to get replacements now for the incorrect ones - 1.5mm will need to do in place of the 2.5mm I think.

Also - the little silicon bushes do not have a locator to go onto like the OEM part - I suspect you remove them and just slide them on to waterproof etc?

I think next time i buy a new plug too - getting them out is not 'tricky' its near impossible ;p

Ok, they are out - gentle persuasion - just noticed the wires that I got - the thin ones are as thick as the original thicker ones - the fatter ones are a size up. So it was 1.0 and 1.5mm I think - At least in wisdom I bought extra, so I have enough to go 'fat' all round.

Success - fidly - hopefully this will last. I need to find the old wrapping - but its got 2 layers of heatshrink on it and hopefully enough wire for if this needs to be done again.
