Re: Reverse light bulbs
May get one of the resistors to stop it making an error
Really like it aswell.
Re: Reverse light bulbs
Can you not get the car coded to turn off bulb warning? Don't fancy chopping in resistors.
But yeah the bulbs are epic

That plastic wing bolt undo it it is tight, so the top tab is coming towards you for undo.

Re: Reverse light bulbs
How strange! I had no problems with my cree led bulb. Mine was the red body type bulb and the seller on e-bay told me that the red body type had a better cree chip than the silver body type! So im not sure if that has anything to do with it. Also im wondering if the problem is GTI based issue?

Re: Reverse light bulbs
well after a lot of testing / trying / testing ect lol got it working with no faults on dash no flashing
dont forget this is on the gti model other people dont seem to need to have all the problems i have had, you lucky gits
so i thought i would try and make a little step by step ish info + pics to help any one trying to upgrade from the standard very dull reverse bulb, to a super bright led.
after you unscrew the holding bolt out (see pic above) and pull out the rear light cluster , then unclip the 4 pins on the back to reveal this...

change over the crap normal bulb for the new led to this ...

right now connect the 2 resistors together if you only use 1 you will still get the flashing, not good . so positive to positive and negative to negative like so ...

right now feed the 2 resistor wires through from the back of the unit like so ...

then connect them directly to the connections of the light we soldered them on and used red for live and black for earth . FINGERS CROSSED JOB DONE ...

Re: Reverse light bulbs
A thought - To avoid using resistor packs, purchase CAN BUS friendly bulbs. Its a much tidier way, and you run far less risk of a fire as the resistor packs get pretty hot when in use!
Re: Reverse light bulbs
These are canbus bulbs but for some reason the GTI don't like them. Although mine was a red case bulb and the seller told me it had a better chip. Also mine is none GTI. How do you like the bulb now when it's Dark? Get some night shots.
Re: Reverse light bulbs
Well just for the record, ive had my canbus LED bulb in my gti for months now, no problems at all with no need for resistors!

Re: Reverse light bulbs
They could do, I think it has to do with the canbus system that is fitted in the car at the time too. I bought the CREE reverse bulb and it ran fine for a week but then started to chuck a bulb error light up intermittently
tried to contact the seller for a replacement unit, I asked for the red plated one after CANDYMAN told me it had a better chip in but the seller still hasn't gotten back to me. Only a tenner but was still p***ed off.
Re: Reverse light bulbs
Yeah, sounds like typical ebay does that pal. Mate of mine has some in his Scirocco and they are mega bright. Thinking about changing mine, but then again there's nothing really wrong with the one's i have, so i think why change
Haha
