MOT question.

Post by aaronon »

Hey everyone,

I got my mot failing blue side lights changed for normal ones as I've an mot on Saturday.

But halfords dropped the old sidelight into the actual light casing :S Will this fail me?

I've to get my service after my mot as they're booked up so I am kind of worrying!! :(

They also took out my main beam bulb to try and get it out. Will this have unaligned it?

I'm scared :(:(

First off, don't let Halfords anywhere near your car. True polo owner becomes contortionist and changes bulbs with own hands, grasshoppa

Removing/replacing the bulbs is common practice and should not knock out your alignment, unless you used a hammer or something. Besides, I'm pretty sure main beam bulbs don't get checked on alignment because they have no specific beam pattern and are meant to light up the whole road anyway!

As long as they properly put the main beam bulb back in afterwards you should pass on that.

As for the bulb in the casing i'm not sure. I would think as long as it's not actually within the silver reflector cone (and you can see it from outside) and obstructing the beam they shouldn't have a problem. If it is within the reflector cone then I would use a telescopic grab/magnet pen to fish the thing out. Then slap the guy who put it there.

Hope this helps!

Haha thanks. I tried to take out the big bulb so I could stick a magnet in but the bulb casing actually stays so you can't get into the casing without taking off the bumper it appears :(

At my service and Volkswagen said my lights were out of alignment :( Have the mot later :)

How the hell did he get it lost inside the cluster? If you can see it from the outside then it'll probably come out by just removing the light and shaking it upside down for a while I'd have thought. There's something on here about removing them, bumper needs loosening I believe.

And yes, Halfords are incompetent. Did it pass the MOT then?

Can't believe I didn't reply to this! How rude.

Yep passed MOT. He's a dream bless him. Though have since had to place those sidelights again so I went for Bosch ones as they didnt look as cheap and flimsy!

Exhaust emissions light came on after I drove through a puddle. Has happened a ton of times before so I thought "meh ill get the sensor cleaned and be on my way". Drove through another puddle on the next night on the same road (motorway on the way home from work) and next day the light was gone!

Haha. I feel blessed as I thought they stayed on until you got them reset!
