Polo TDI U/J bolts

Every post I have searched through suggests that the bolts holding the inner universal joint on are M8 spline so I ordered an M8 800mm long spline socket. Come to give it a try and mine are M10. Is this correct for a 2004 Polo 1.9 TDI? I'm assuming they're bigger because of the extra torque they're dealing with?
