2 year old Polo 1.4SE

Post by pvr »

Just bought a two year old 1.4SE (my old 6N2 is in the for sale section :D ) and I have a question on the brake fluid service.

The dealer is refusing to change the brake fluid prior to the sale as they state it should be done at 3 years old, not 2. To me that makes no sense as every car I have owned is always at 2 years interval.

Can anyone confirm if what the dealer states, is correct?

The dealer will have their own service schedule, but to be fair they still use DOT4 brake fluid, which should be changed every 2 years regardless of mileage as its hygroscopic etcetc

Yes, agreed on that.

Even on the VW website it states that every car after 2008 has its first brake fluid replaced after 3 years, then after that - every 2 years.

Just does not make sense to be. Assuming the production date a few months before delivery, add 3 years and you will have brake fluid of close to 3.5 years before it is replaced.

I agree - that is a bit odd

The question we must ask is what makes the brake fluid they use initially so special it lasts an extra year lol

Just put your foot down with some good old fashioned mechanical knowledge ;)
