1.4 16V Polo won't start!! HELP!!

Hey guys, I have a 2000 VW Polo 1.4 16v (automatic gear). I can’t start it. When I turn the key, nothing happens except all of the meters on the instrument panel rattle for a short while and some of the lights flicker. It happened once yesterday and I jump-started it. After a few unsuccessful tries, it worked. But now jump starting it doesn't do anything at all. I believe the battery is ok since all the lights on the dashboard are on and everything else (lights, windshield wiper, radio etc.) works. Any clues on what's wrong?

Could be a fault ignition switch

Do the lights on the dash go out when you try and start it?

I'd go for a knackered battery,even a knackered battery will run small things (lights etc) try putting your headlights on main beam and then try starting-see what happens to your main beam..
