POLO 6N2 GEARBOX OPTIONS /CURE ?

Post by ricky_noel »

Hi my polo 6n2 1.4 se i believe has a gearbox problem it all goes in to gear all well and good . the problem is when the cars just ticking over and not in gear theres a strange slight grinding noise but as soon as i put the clutch in its quite ? any ideas? .

Also i would like to know if a seat gearbox would be a good fit and would last as i know polo gearboxes are absolute pants and don't last long. any input would be great thanks :)

Could be release bearing but I think rather than messing about change the whole clutch. I would wait until it goes if money is tight though you never know it might not need replacing for sometime yet.

Thatll be the clutch release bearing grinding

Its not so much the polo gearboxes - its the 085 gearboxes of this build series - they are all affected by the same problems.

Your best to get a SACHS or LUK clutch from somewhere like GSF or Euro Car Parts and get a genuine VW clutch release bearing as the quality of these is superior

If you know someone with a TPS account or have a local TPS, you can get a genuine VW clutch for not much more than GSF/Euro

To be fair, VW parts generally speaking are excellent quality and far better than pattern parts. The soft rivets that affect the polo gearboxes are just an unfortunate case of bad design.

If you have access to a local TPS, get everything genuine

Otherwise get a non genuine clutch, but get a genuine release bearing from your local VW dealer.
