Fault codes advice

Post by dantheram »

Hi all,

my 6n2 gti is struggling to start when left over night - initially thought it was the cold weather but im not sure.

i have pulled the following codes from the car -

Address 01: Engine Labels: Redir Fail! Controller: 036 906 033 A Component: 1.6l/4V SIMOS3 00HS3259 Coding: 00031 Shop #: WSC 00788 VCID: 0F51303F5E53 3 Faults Found:

17978 - Engine Start Blocked by Immobilizer P1570 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent
17978 - Shareware Version. To Decode all DTCs P1570 - 35-10 - Please Register/Activate - Intermittent
18048 - Shareware Version. To Decode all DTCs P1640 - 35-00 - Please Register/Activate Readiness: 0010 1001

the first one is my syptom - the car starts on the 2/3 attempt from cold but then cuts out but is fine after the cut out.

code 18048 is very vague and refers to the ecu being defective but im sure this may be a power issue.

can anyone help?

When did you have a new battery last?

My first thought was battery but the car turns over fine it just struggles to get that last humph from stone cold. Then it cuts out 2/3 times after starting but after that its fine.

If it was what the code said it'd be more random. Mine is only happening when I start in the morning.

The battery has never been changed by me so must be 5yrs + old at least.

It could still be the battery - i would try another to rule it out

Also, check your earth straps are all in good shape.

You can try to clean battery connections with sandpaper - i had simular issues but only Immo error stored in ECU and also electric windows were not opening and closing automaticly. Everything is working fine and i have nor errors after i cleaned both connections.
