1.2 TSI - Running in period?

Post by JayW »

Like any new car I've had I've always "run them in" usually doing around the 600 mile mark before passing a certain rpm range and not to floor it on every given opportunity.

My question is though: Do small engine cars even need running in? I've done nearly 300 miles now and been very careful with the car, trying not to pass 3000rpm and giving only light throttle.

Is this the right thing to do?

We have been previously told to floor it for the first 100 miles and rev it really high.
But, I don't think that modern engines need running in any more (or at least not like the old ones did)

would say dont be careful with it,as long as its warm vary the revs and dont be afraid to rev it ,but dont let it labour in the wrong gear, you'll be fine

covered over 400 miles now and been varying my driving a lot. Most thing im looking out for is warming the engine up before applying too much revs and pushing the turbo. Car is running great and I have to admit it doesn't feel like im driving a 1.2 at all! The car pulls so well in low revs, it's abit of a beaut to drive no matter the traffic condition.

I look forward to waking up every morning now just to drive it :D
