Putting your fogs back in...

Post by aaronon »

Hey everyone!

So you may or may not know I bought the fog grills and the fogs etc (MASSIVE thanks to JIC Cracked who sold me them and has also acted as phone support for everything from parts to bulbs to grills). Anyway JIC has tried his best to explain how to slide the fogs in and even given me pictures but I still can't do it and I really don't want to harass him anymore as he's been too kind already.

I've lined the top plastic up with the groove and slid them in and then screwed in the fogs but the grills won't fit on. I don't think the fogs are fully clipped in. Do they make a click? Are they secure without the screws (ie they fix to the bumper at the top?).

I'm having so much trouble when it looks so easy. I put the top corner in first and then slide the top in.

Can anyone give any other tips?

Thanks :)

Borrowed this image from CANDYMAN, hope he doesn't mind.

Right so at the top of the fog light where the red box is you need to make sure that that is fully aligned and not wonky, they don't make a click from what I remember. Then make sure that the screw holes, red circles, line up with the screw holes in the bumper. You then need to secure them with some appropriately sized screws. I got some T25 screws from VW and they are fine. Then put the grills in the reversal of the removal you did. So make sure the corners are in first then align all the other point and press them in. Once that's done give them a might bang with your palm and they'll clip in sure enough. Don't worry you won't damage them. :)

Thanks haha I used that picture already but i'm still struggling. I banged quite hard to the point where my bumper moved so I was afraid of setting off the airbag at that stage lol. They click. . .but then pop out because of pressure coming from the fog.

Mine looks like this when I've put them in....

This looks right though so I don't understand what I'm doing wrong :( :( :( :(

Sometimes it is not the fog light iself that is messed up but the clips that holds the black surround cover... and that make you think that the fog is pushing the cover off.

Not sure if this helps, but try this:

When removing the fogs, the workshop manual mention releasing the locking lugs:

When installing the fogs, it mentions inserting tabs into retainers in bumper and lock them:

Thanks for that! I had the fogs in right but JICcracked phoned me again and even sent me videos of him putting his in and he BANGED it hard with his hand. I did that and they clipped in.

One clip on the drivers side fog grill hasn't gone in so it kind of bulges but I'm willing to have that!!

Anyway thanks to everyone who helped and especially to JIC Cracked who has been incredible :)

Just for show at the minute as they really set the whole thing off I think!

Chrome and grey of them matches the inside haha. I don't think I'm going to wire them up as apparently some BMC's aren't designed to get fogs and I don't want to mess with the electrics!

Here's a wee photo of it all done!

I retrofitted mine pal, piece of pie, my grilles were like yours are now but I just went out about ten minutes ago and gave them a push in that area as hard as I could and they clicked into place and it doesn't bulge out anymore! YES! Give it a go pal, just push on the fog lamp as hard as you can, the bumper will flex abit but don't worry about it! Really like the car as well, looks really classy!

It's not going to happen. If I push hard it's not even clicking in and popping out.... It's just pushing in and nothing's happening. Not sure but it's alright :)
