Going for test drive tomorrow. R Line

Post by Riske »

Hello all,

Been reading through the new new new polo posts recently as I am keen on getting a new polo.
I went into vw last week and they told me prices etc and like what I'm hearing. 1.2tsi petrol 103bhp I think?
I booked in a test drive in an R Line polo so want to know your thoughts on the GTI and Blue GT as I can't get them in to test drive. Apparently the blue sells too quick and the GTI doesn't, so they don't get them in?!
I am also testing a 1.0 ecoboost fiesta just to see how good that little engine is. I am not going to buy one unless they give me it for pennies!

Anyway I would love to hear what you have to say about the tsi polos and maybe help me decide as to which one to go with. Love the look of them in white or nimbus grey.

I have tried the "old" 1,2 TSI in The Beetle. And even in that much heavier car the engine seems to have plenty of power. And since VW has gone back to toothed belts in their new range of engines It should be really reliable now. :)

I have just ordered a BlueGT. It has an incredible little engine which I have tried in both the Polo and the new Golf. You can really feel it has that more power than the 1,2 and the same torgues as the GTI.

i was really impressed with the R-line when i had it for a few hours, great car, loved the looks and the interior trim and the 1.2tsi was fun

i went for a BlueGT as i wanted more mid range given i do a far bit of motorway work but was a close call

i had a new shape fiesta once as a courtesy car and not for me, great engines but the starship enterprise interior put me off as do their dealer network and residuals

Yeah, I'm afraid I don't like them Fiestas either, not really keen on Fords  (sorry)
IMO all of the current Fords just look far too fussy inside and out (in particular the Focus and Fiesta)
I am super biased, but the 6R Polo (and all other current V-dubs) just looks soooooo much better!

btw, sorry as that was really off-topic!

Had the test drives and...

Fiesta 1.0ecoboost 125ps. This was a good engine which did not feel like a small turbo engine car! Impressed with the engine but everything else was boring. The looks are awful inside and out. Lots of gadgets like keyless entry etc etc. I am not going with the ford as the residual value is crap and seem to be 1 in every 5th car!

R Line 105ps was nice to look at but the spec and interior was plane and bit lacking to be honest. I enjoyed the drive but i did feel as if I was in an older car. It did feel dated due to the lack of tech. Looked like it was the Crossover version because it had such a tall ride height! However I did love the engine. I haven't seen an R Line on the road.

Now this is where it gets interesting!

I also test drove a 1.4tsi 140ps blue GT Golf. This had all the gadgets and tech you could shake a stick at. This was down to being the latest model and keeping up with innovation etc. this car was lovely! Auto handbrake took some getting used to!! I loved the engine and it's Eco ability to shut down 2 cylinders when driving calm. This amazing engine reaches nearly a staggering 140bhp and 70mpg! With this in the blueGT polo it would be such a nice drive.

My choices have completely shifted towards the 1.4tsi 140ps engine. I specced out a BlueGT polo with the extras I fancied and VW have offered me a good deal (I think) and I'm nearly decided. Only thing is the awful interior colour scheme and the ride height. HOWEVER I then looked at what other cars had this engine and the Audi A1 Black edition has the DSG box bolted to it but it's £3k more than the BLue GT before the discounts and deposit contribution etc VW are offering. Thing is the Audi has more as standard and newer car. Looks nicer and ride height is good.

Now looking for some advice to about the Blue GT compared with the A1 both with the 140ps 1.4tsi lump. I can't test drive any of them or look at one as they don't have any at the dealers near me. Your feedback is greatly appreciated.

Well, you can get the BlueGT with the black alcantara seats (which is what I'd prefer). I've heard the Ford EcoBoost engine is great to drive but rubbish for economy (~42mpg vs ~47 for the Polo TSI on here). I do agree that the Polo is kind of lacking in tech though- the Bluetooth system is rubbish compared to every single other VW group car on sale today, and comparing the stereo systems to the systems in other cars is just embarrassing.

Good choice to go for the Polo BlueGT. I picked the optional Leather/Alcantara seats for the reason that the stock seat option just looks to much like it could have been designed by the designers kid one day he was with daddy to work...

I tried the 1,4 TSI in the Golf mk 7 first to. And it's a great little engine. :) I was even more impressed when I tried it in the Polo with ACT too. :)

1.4tsi 140ps

The 1.4 ACT is definitely the way to go but in the polo I have to add lots of extras to update the interior. It brings the polo out at £20k.
I am thinking I am better off going for the GolfGT and paying a little more for a hell of a lot more and a newer model. What do people think?
