Signal lights problem!!!Need help!

Hi guys, I changed the turn signal lever on my Polo 2000,1.4 60hp,engine AKK but i have another problem!I bought a new lever, I changed it and when I started the engine to see if it works have the same problem as the old lever (signal right not working and the left was ok )i take a look to the fuse..was ok, I cleaned it and I put it back.When I started the engine wasn't working at all(neither left nor right)but the emergency light works.Some opinions! Thank you in advance !

You likely need a new indicator stalk

But i changed the old one with a new one.do you think that the new one isn't good?

Check all the connections are clean and making good contact with the stalk and its wiring connector.
