electric windows problems

Post by colour_concept »

Hi guys

a few days ago i had a problem come up with my electric windows. Very strange and seems quite complicated (possibly more than one faulty item maybe). Quite tricky to explain but here goes:

using the switches on the drivers side:
- i cannot open or close the driver side window, nor do i haer any clicking sounds. When i press the switch nothing happens at all
- i can close the passenger side window if its already open but cannot open it with this switch and i do hear a clicking sound.

using the switch on passenger side:
- i can open and close the passenger windows without any problems so nothing wrong here

central locking switch on drivers side doesnt do anything but does make the pumping noise - simply doesnt lock or open the doors

electric mirror switch on driver side doesnt do anything

using the keys from outside; if i hold them in the lock position for a few secs that closes the passenger side window, but not the driver side. and likewise if i hold the keys in the unlock position the passenger side window comes down but not the drivers side. Locks work fine though

using the alarm keyfob to lock/unlock the car also works fine

so as you can see above a very trick problem. Key thing here is the driver side windows which just doesnt work at all, no matter what and the controls for the electric mirrors and central locking switch. I have open up the panel and checked the switches by swapping around the driver/passenger side connection and id assume this means the switches are fine. Theres something up with the wiring or something somewhere.

Any advice would really help as its quite frustrating not being able to open the drivers side window and not even being able to use the central locking switch to the lock the car when driving. If you need anymore info please ask. Thanks in advance

Sounds like the wiring between the door and the car has broken

Check underneath the rubber boot for damaged wires and repair as necessary
