1.2 TSI Help
Ive just bought a 1.2 TSI and am not convinced the MFD is working properly. The speedo just shows --- and the mpg and miles left in the tank seem to be reading quite low. Its saying 400 miles for a full tank and I cant get it to more than 40 mpg (used to own a 1.9 tdi, this got 53mpg on the way to the dealership, the 1.2 TSI got 39 mpg for the same journey on the way back). Do I just need to get used to not having a diesel or do other 1.2 TSI owners get higher figures?

Re: 1.2 TSI Help
These little turbo engines are very dependant on how you drive them. But most people seem to be reporting mid-high 40s. But the only way to really check is to do a brim-to-brim check- fill your tank up all the way, drive until it's empty, fill it up again and record how far you drove and how much petrol you put in.
But the average speed should be showing something other than ---!

Re: 1.2 TSI Help
Thank you vc-10, I will do as you suggest (as well as figure out whether Im driving it right). Ill wait till Ive checked the mpg and see about getting the speed thing looked at too.
Re: 1.2 TSI Help
Hello, firstly the --- ; I think you're referring to the speed limiter? I.e you can set it to a certain speed and then it will beep when it hits that speed. It is normal to show as --- unless you've input a speed. Try pressing the button underneath the stalk whilst it is showing ---, and it should allow you (using the up/down buttons on end of stalk) to set a speed? If i'm confused over what you mean then I do apologise but this is all I can think of!bluebelle24 wrote:Ive just bought a 1.2 TSI and am not convinced the MFD is working properly. My full tank range varies from 250-400. I've not seen it higher, but as previously mentioned it all goes off how you drive! My Mpg is always between 25-40 and rarely round town I can touch 50
Re: 1.2 TSI Help
Having covered 40k in my 1.2 TSI Polo, I've got a fairly good idea of what MPG it's capable of. If you stick to 56mph behind a truck on the motorway for a long haul, you can reach an average of 60-64 MPG. Most days i'm doing a 30 mile motorway journey glued to 80 mph and I always get around 48 MPG.
It's all down to how you drive the car but I find it very economical. I have also noticed a substation return on investment when using BP Ultimate/Shell V-Power fuel, saying that, I never fill up with 95 RON unleaded it's always super unleaded at minimum.
When you brim the tank and reset the mileage counter, the Range counter seems to reset to 395/400. This soon increases once you get on the motorway or decreases if you drive like you've stole it!

LOL. I always drive mine like I stole it, when I get the chance !!! But I think Mrs Jones returns mid 40's and she does a 10 mile a day trip to work and back.AJ_7 wrote: When you brim the tank and reset the mileage counter, the Range counter seems to reset to 395/400. Thanks everyone - thats really helpful. Evidently the range thing is cleverer than the one on my old polo!

No, its the average speed thing - it just doesnt appear to work. Will get it looked at.
