Waiting for a new Polo?

Post by NG6R14SEL »

With a couple of people waiting for new Polo's I thought that this might be of interest

Is the car from UK stock or is it being shipped from Spain or South Africa?
If it's built to your order and ready for shipping you can track it once you have the VIN number from your dealer

Go to the Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics web site ~ https://att.2wglobal.com/gstattweb

Enter the VIN number in the 'Cargo ID' field and click on the 'Track' button
This will tell you the name of the ship and where it is

Once you have the name of the ship you can find more accurate updates on the ships location by searching for it in marine traffic websites
http://www.marinetraffic.com
Click on location and map and from the satellite view you can zoom in and see cars on the dock
but not yours because it's not live but the ships tracking overlay position is

As an example mine was Bess, roll on roll off, and it's current position is ~ http://www.marinetraffic.com/ais/shipde ... =372995000

Once built the car will wait for a full ship load and will not appear on the tracking site until it has been loaded onto the vessel
and possibly a few days after that once the shipping data has been updated ~ mine showed up when it was loaded

Ships can disappear of the tracking while on route if they are out of range ~ it doesn't mean that it has sunk and you might have to dry out wet carpet

Cheers for posting. If only I'd have known I probably would have been checking every 10 mins for an update and got even less work done.

At 5 MPH checking every 10 mins is a bit OTT but fun all the same and better than working

Three times a day does see some progress and it's interesting to see the ship leave Port Elizabeth and stop off for booze and a paper on route
in Spain and Belgium before going past the UK and up to Bremen and Bremerhaven where the cars are given a check over in Germany
and then it's back to the UK and dropped off in Southampton ~ better make that driven off in Southampton

About four days later my dealer told me that my car was at Grimsby which came as a shock and it spent about a week there
before being transported to the dealer ~ with 11 miles on the clock it hadn't been driven there so that's good
I went to see it the next day with the white film and foam padding and no damage or dings :D Phew

I took about 45 PC screen grabs of the ships journey showing the route and times with the intention of making up a powerpoint show, but never did

I have tried this a few times the past two weeks since my car was built. (I was built on june 11th).

And have done as told, typed in the vin number in the Cargo ID field to the right on the screen. But it just says "No Records Found"

I don't know if it's to early to be able to track the car or it just dosn't work. Anyone had better luck than me?
