Polo newbie help needed

Post by iain10 »

Afternoon all. Where to start.

I have just bought a polo match from my local vw dealership. It comes with already fitted a rns310.

Now, the car has no bluetooth capabilities, so was just wondering if I bought a 9w7 unit from eBay, would this work with this head unit. It doesn't have a multi function wheel.

Secondly, I'm assuming from reading on here that the polo match has a midline mfd, and not a highline. So if this module works, would it display it on there too.

Lastly, assuming again this works, I've read that these modules normally fit under the seat in a foam tray. Would I need to do this or, could I just tuck it behind the head unit, or is their not enough room.

Many thanks in advance guys.

Forgive my ignorance I don't know what the 9w7 unit is.

However, I can tell you that if you buy the VW aftermarket Bluetooth (that may be 9w7 but I don't know) we call it the Bury unit does not require MF stearing wheel as it is a touch screen unit. You will need to have the transmitter under the seat as it is too large to sit behind the display unit. As far as I know the only unit that works with the MFD and MFSW is the RNS315 if it is factory fit.

The 9W7 unit will only display in the dash if you have highline

Your best options are to get a Fiscon Basic Plus http://www.fiscon-mobile.com/products/rns_310.php or the VW Bluetooth Touch Kit (albeit this doesnt integrate into the RNS310 directly as it has its own screen) or a 9W7 kit and control it from the RNS315

I had a Fiscon Basic Plus and it was very good :)

The module doesn't fit under the seat in it's foam tray due to the seat tray doors or covers fouling, not enough room behind the head unit usually. If you've got cilmatronic and are prepared to remove the lugs then it's possible to fit it with some difficultly. You need to dismantle the whole centre console to do this.

The splice lead requires careful installation to pull/push the slack back into the void below or the radio unit will not go back properly.

The module will not display on a midline MFD you'll need a RNS510 / RNS315 or RCD510 unit to get on screen controls for dialing, picking up etc or a multifunction wheel. You'll need to the code the bluetooth module and the navigation unit so will need VCDS or access to it.

Installation is fairly straight forward you'll need trim removal tools, flat bladed screw driver and a triple sq bit to remove the seat. Start with the rear bolt nearest the transmission tunnel then rear door side, then front transmission side and finally front door side. 25nM torque on each bolt check for alignment before trying to drive in the hole, if cross threaded you'll need to replace the support frame which is a PITA.
All the trim just pulls off, A pillar first start at the top and work down, then B pillar than door sill then chubby/bonnet release depending on which side. Cable tie or cloth tape the wire to the existing harness as you go. Watch out for the curtain side airbag if fitted. Also disconnect the battery before starting.

Doesn't the RNS310 have a built-in Bluetooth module? Or is that something else?

Mmm. Not sure. Don't pick the car up for another week yet so never tried. I know when you press the phone button, everything just mutes.

The RNS315 has built in bluetooth, but it has to be activated, some wiring and a microphone added.
